PAN Biodiversity Consulting (Pty) Ltd takes its name from the fundamental focus of our work: understanding how human activities affect Plants, Animals, and Nature. Simply put, PAN reflects the core realms investigated by specialist biodiversity consultants. Coincidentally, Pan is also the Greek god of wild nature, symbolising humanity's deep and enduring connection with the natural world - our perception of it, our dependence on it, and the mysteries it still holds in its wildest places. The name serves as a reminder that biodiversity is both a scientific discipline and a living system that continues to inspire, sustain, and challenge us.
Who we are
PAN Biodiversity Consulting (Pty) Ltd is led by Dr Juan Swanepoel, a professionally registered SACNASP ecological scientist with several years of experience in ecological research and over five years of experience in ecological screening, impact assessment, and ecological consulting across South Africa. With a background in Conservation Biology, Botany and Zoology, Juan combines scientific rigour with practical expertise to support environmentally responsible development. We believe that sustainable development begins with understanding ecosystems - not just as constraints, but as living systems with intrinsic value. Our work seeks to balance ecological integrity with human needs, grounded in evidence-based science and regulatory best practice.
